Case study – Architectural design and specification – single storey side extension and internal reconfiguration.
This is a case study for our architectural design and specification services The intention is to show potential customers the quality of our design work as well as our adoption of the RIBA plan of work.
For this project we were commissioned by a client for our architectural design and specification services. After an initial consultation and preparation of the project brief we were tasked with designing a single storey side extension. Specification work was also undertaken to ensure compliance with planning and building regulations.
The image produced using AutoCAD Revit shows the proposed ground floor plan which includes a knock through from the existing kitchen into the new side extension.
Below shows a 3D image of the proposed design. We included a large roof lantern with the bi-folding doors to create a light and airy space which is designed to incorporate the new kitchen.
One of the great advantages of using AutoCAD Revit for design and specification is that it allows our customers to be able to visualise the design in 3D.
Even better still is the ability to present our customers with rendered 3D visualisations such as the one below.
Over a number of years we have built up a good working relationship with structural engineers at RCA Structures. Their expertise in designing structural elements of the building fill sin the gap in our expertise.
The structural design aspects of this project provided quite a challenge for the engineers due to the presence of a number of trees in the proximity of the proposed extension. Some of these trees are covered by tree protection orders (TPOs). It was therefore important to ensure that they were not harmed by the foundations. Deep strip foundations were the design solution to this because of the risk of heave.
